Taiwan Golden Melody Awards

Can you believe someone who would actually stayed up whole night (from midnight till 6am) just to watch an awards show? Well, that someone is me. I didn't know what got over me last night that I made myself stay awake to watch Taiwan Golden Melody Awards Show repeated telecast over cable tv. From the 1.5 hours Red Carpet Walk to the 4 freaking hours of the actual awards show. I only managed to crawl under my trusted comforter at 6am this morning. Argh! Seriously, none of the stars that walked the red carpet last night were impressive or outstanding. In fact, most of them looked hideous and nowhere elegant or daring as their western counterparts. And the awards show...my.....way too long. The saving grace were the hosts (Matilda Tao & 小 S) and the strong lineup of performers who gave their all, ranging from Jacky Chung, Eason Chan, Ah-Mei, MC Hotdog, Zhang ZhenYue with special guest Patty Hou, Stephanine Sun, Se7en, Vanness, not forgetting the opening act (which to my own view) was a little mild, Lee Hom with a few others. Guess the hottest moment was when MC Hotdog & ZhenYue performed their hit "我爱台妹" and before we know it, a Elva Hsiao lookalike, complete with hat & white outfit with enough bling bling, started swaying and rapping. She is none other than Patty Hou!! She was having so much fun rapping and shouting "侯佩岑算什么". haha! So wild and fun that the normally staid Penny Tai, Cheer Chen, Fish Leong stood up and danced and rapped alongside rock chick Tanya Chua! But the performances of Eason & Stephanie singing past best vocalists' hit songs fell a little short on the expectations especially Stephanie's performances, she either forgot her lyrics to Jacky's "一路上有你" or can't hit the high notes to Sky Wu's "爱要怎么说" or simply not in tune to Eason's "你的背包" but then again, it is not easy to sing an opposite sex's songs. Though Eason fared better with Faye's "将爱", coupled with Karen Mok, 杨乃文 et al songs. But when it comes to singing live, no one and I mean no one ever comes near the King himself, Jacky Chung! He was immaculate, singing Teresa Teng's golden hits effortlessly and he sounded so clear and powerful! He is indeed our pride to the international stage. To me, the most satisfying wins had to be Cheer Chen's boyfriend walking away with "Best Producer" with Cheer Chen's album and our Singapore pride, Tanya Chua, finally earning wide recognition for her singing poweress to walk away head high with pride the accolade, "Best Female Vocalist"! Congrats Tanya! You have done Singaporeans proud and a much more deserving winner than your counterparts.
