Australia: From 1 July 2026, skilled visa income thresholds will be increased by 3.8%

From 1 July 2026, indexation changes will be as follows:

  • The Core Skills Income Threshold (CSIT) will increase from AUD76,515 to AUD79,423. This will impact nomination applications for the Core Skills stream of the Skills in Demand visa (subclass 482) and the Employer Nomination Scheme visa (subclass 186).
  • The Specialist Skills Income Threshold (SSIT) will increase from AUD141,210 to AUD146,576. This will impact nomination applications for the Specialist Skills stream of the Skills in Demand visa (subclass 482).
  • The Temporary Skilled Migration Income Threshold (TSMIT) will increase from AUD76,515 to AUD79,423. This will impact nomination applications for the Skilled Employer Sponsored Regional visa (subclass 494) and the Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme (RSMS) (subclass 187).

Switzerland lifts visa restrictions on Ethiopia

Under the Schengen Association Agreement, Switzerland has decided to lift the visa restrictions it has applied to Ethiopia since April 2024. 

The Federal Council adopted the measure at its meeting on 12 June, following a decision by the Council of the European Union (EU) to reinstate certain visa requirements for Ethiopia in response to the country's improved cooperation on returns.

Australia: Changes to Training visa (subclass 407) application requirements

The Australian Government is updating Training (subclass 407) visa application requirements to ensure the program supports genuine skills development as intended.

From 11 March 2026, in addition to other validity requirements, all new applicants for a Training visa will need to wait for the following before they can make a valid Training visa application:

  • their sponsor must be approved as a temporary activities sponsor, and
  • their sponsor must have an approved Training visa nomination for them, unless the sponsor is a Commonwealth agency.
